Tuesday November 1st, 2016 | Stephanie

Are you looking for a career in conservation and land management?  The Landscape Partnership Scheme is funding two traineeship placements to start in the new year.

Both are 12-month placements and ideal for people looking to gain practical experience in conservation and land management.

The traineeships will involve practical estate and habitat management, rights of way and access management, environmental education/visitor centre roles and the ability to motivate volunteers and engage with members of the public.  These skills are particularly relevant to managing the special landscape of the Stiperstones and Corndon Hill Country border area.

The trainees will work towards a City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Work-based Environmental Conservation.  Each receives a bursary of £9,000.  They are also allocated  a significant budget for external training which can be tailored to their needs.

  • Traineeship One: with Natural England Stiperstones NNR, Access & Habitat Management, and The National Trust Carding Mill Valley & Shropshire Hills.  The trainee’s time will be divided between these conservation organisations and contactor to gain the range of skills and experience needed to pursue a career in this sector.
  • Traineeship Two: with Shropshire Council Outdoor Partnerships Team and based at Severn Valley Country Park.  The trainee’s time will be utilised between managing this and other Council owned Countryside Heritage Sites including some additional time with Shropshire Rights of Way team at Nils, Pontesbury.  Again, this practical experience across a range of skills is vital to pursue a career in this sector.

The work-based placement will begin on Monday 27th February 2017.  Please note both roles will involve some evening and weekend working.

Deadline for applications is 5pm Monday 2nd January 2017, with interviews taking place for the Traineeship on Wednesday 18th January and Thursday 19th January 2017.

You will need to complete 2 separate application forms if you wish to apply for both traineeships.
