Celebration Event, 17th October

You are invited to join us for a day of celebration and sharing…

We will be celebrating the achievements of the Landscape Partnership Scheme.  It’s an opportunity to hear about what has been achieved across the Scheme’s fourteen projects, to learn about the Scheme from those involved and to celebrate the Scheme’s overall success (you might hear about some of the challenges too along the way!)

  • 10.20am, Scheme overview with highlights from across the fourteen projects
  • 11.00am *Break-out case studies to hear more about key bits of the Scheme
  • 12.00 Exhibition and informal sharing
  • 12.45-1.30pm Lunch
  • 1.30 – 4.30pm **Site visits to see some of what the Scheme has achieved

During the day there will also be the opportunity to meet our 2017 Environmental Conservation Trainees and hear about our Buzz in the Borders work with local schools.  The exhibition will feature highlights from the Scheme projects, and Down to Earth community projects.

*Break-out Case Study session

Please choose two from the four options below:

  • Curlew Country – Join Mandi Perkins to hear about the significant developments in the Project this year and to learn about the ongoing fight to save the local Curlew population. With a report on this year’s nest monitoring and protection work, and thoughts for the future.
  • Young Rangers – Join Jon Bielstein and some of his Young Rangers to hear about what the Young Rangers Programme has offered and in particular about how two of our Rangers got to visit Switzerland this summer for the Europarc Federation Young Rangers Camp!
  • Meadows, Pastures & Verges – Join JP Brayford and members of the Marches Meadow Group to hear about the Meadows project and the creation of one particular meadow near Norbury from scratch.
  • Resting Hill Nestbox Project and Community Wildlife Groups – Join Amber Bicheno (LPS Trainee and CWG volunteer) to hear more about how the wildlife groups have developed and in particular about the nest box project at Resting Hill on the edge of the Stiperstones.

 

**Afternoon Visit/Activity Options

Please choose from the following site visit options.  Let us know your prefered option and a second choice

  • Access & Interpretation improvements at key Mining Sites – join Andrew Wood, Shropshire Caving & Mining Club & LPS Chair, to see some of the improvements made through the Scheme at sites such as Cothercott barytes mine, Snailbeach mine and Tankerville mine.
  • Rescuing rocks and overgrown relics at Poles Coppice – the largest LPS project has involved significant work by contractors and volunteers to restore and create niche habitat across six sites. Visit Poles Coppice to see how habitat restoration, volunteer engagement, interpretation and training elements have all come together.
  • Old Ways Walk – a guided walk led by Hugh Hannaford (Shropshire Council Archaeological Projects Officer) to explore one of the area’s old ways. Length of walk to be confirmed. Hugh has supported our Open Hills, Old Ways & Commons Project community archaeology project which included six Old Ways walks.
  • Small Grants & Rural Skills – a visit to sites to see how small grants have been used.  This includes a visit to Peter Sheppard’s smallholding, near Minsterley, to see how grants have helped with a range of projects including community juicing equipment, purchased by he Shropshire Smallholders Group.
