The Great Stiperstones Biobiltz

24-hours to record as many species as possible!  Learn about the wildlife of the Stiperstones with our many experts. Whether you’re into moths, mosses, bats or beetles, a complete beginner or keen improver, join us for the day and help us reach our target of 500 species.  The programme of activities starts at 7 a.m with a bird walk, and ends at 10.30 p.m with a star-gazing event. Free event, everyone welcome.

There is lots going on throughout the day including children’s activities and walking trails to follow.  Below is details of timed activities:

  • 20.30 to late on Friday 22nd, Moth trapping at the Stiperstones NNR car park, with Dave Green
  • 0700 to 11.00 Stiperstones bird walk, meet at The Bog Visitor Centre, walk leader is John Tucker
  • 08.00 to 09.30 Woodland bird walk, meet at Snailbeach Village Hall car park, walk leader is Pete Carty
  • 10.00 to 11.00 Small mammal trapping at the Stiperstones NNR car park, with Kirstine Harvey
  • 10.00 to 11.00 Discover the moth trap catches at The Bog Visitor Centre, with Dave Green
  • 10.00 to 12.00 Pond Dipping, meet at The Bog car park, with Richard and Alyson Small
  • 10.30 to 12.30 Botany walk, meet at The Bog Visitor Centre, with Dan Wrench and John Handley
  • 10.30 to 12.30 Invertebrate hunt, meet at the Stiperstones NNR car park, with Pete Boardman
  • 11.00 to 12.30 Tree ID walk, meet at The Bog Visitor Centre, with Dave Woodhouse
  • 12.00 to 13.00 Soil invertebrates, meet at the Bog Visitor Centre, with Richard Small
  • 13.00 to 14.30 Butterfly walk, meet at Perkins Beach, walk leader Simon Cooter
  • 13.00 to 1400 Camera traps, meet at  The Bog Visitor Centre, with Stuart Edmunds
  • 14.00 to 16.00 Pond Dipping, meet at The Bog car park, with Richard and Alyson Small
  • 13.30 to 15.00 Invertebrate hunt, meet at The Bog Visitor Centre, with Pete Boardman
  • 15.00 to 17.00 Botany walk, meet at The Stiperstones Inn, walk leader Dan Wrench, John Handley
  • 15.00 to 17.00 Mammal tracks walk, meet at The Bog car park, walk leader Stuart Edmunds
  • 17.00 to 19.00 Gatten bird walk, meet at the Stiperstones NNR car park, walk leader Leo Smith
  • 18.00 to 20.00 Barbeque at The Bog Visitor Centre
  • 20.15 to 21.15 Bat walk, meet at The Bog Visitor Centre, walk leader Dan Gordon-Lee and Shropshire Bat Group
  • 21.00 to 23.00 Moth trapping at The Bog Visitor Centre, with David Poynton, David Green
  • 21.30 to 22.30 Stargazing, meet at Nipstone car park, led by Alan Longstaff
