The task at Monastery Fields will be led by Reserves Officer, Clive Dean, from Shropshire Wildlife Trust. This will involve cutting and raking rush pasture as part of a project to conserve regionally important ‘wet flush’ habitat. Once cut, the fields can be more easily grazed – a varied flora can then flourish to include Marsh violets, the food plant for small pearl bordered fritillary.
It’s a lovely and in some ways curious site – well worth a visit…
Monastery Fields is not easy to access as it is along a long rough track. The meeting point will therefore be at the entrance to Hollies Farm on the road from Habberley to Bridges, at the slightly earlier time of 10am, grid ref SO 382987. From this point we will shuttle volunteers to the work site. There is a verge there that will take a number of cars.
Please email mailto:email@example.com if you can make the task team date.
