Tuesday Task Team: grass cutting and scything

The Knapp Castle, Pulverbatch,

The task at the Knapp is to bring the site back into condition by controlling bracken, bramble and scrub. Recently, the job has been made more achievable as the Friends of Castle Pulverbatch have purchased an Allen Scythe (pictured) – quite a beast! (and made in Italy!) Bat Walk at Poles Coppice

Poles Coppice boasts six species of bat.  Join this guided evening walk through ancient woodland and fields of Poles Coppice, using bat detectors to identify them. Cost: adults £3.50, children £2. Blakemoorgate cottages open from 11am

Visit the restored 19th-century squatter cottages to see how some of the miners and their families lived. The cottages are open the 1st Sunday of each month from April to October. Parking is available at Snailbeach Village Hall - please remember to leave your donation in the box at the car park entrance.  From here it is an uphill walk of about 3/4 hour to the settlement, following in the footsteps of the miners. Marvellous Moths

Improve your moth id skills and learn about the practicalities of moth trapping. Led by Dave Green from Butterfly Conservation.  There is a charge of £5 for the first session you attend, then subsequent sessions are free. Fungi Identification, The Bog

Christmas at the Cottages – Wreath Making
